Ubuntu 26.04 Adds Built-In Ubuntu Pro Setup During First Login Experience

Ubuntu is making it easier for users to enable Ubuntu Pro by integrating the option directly into the system’s first-run setup tool. It simplifies access to extended security updates right after installation.

This change appears in Ubuntu 26.04 and modifies the welcome experience shown after first login. Users can learn more about account access and authentication through the Ubuntu One login page, which is required for enabling the service.

With this update, Ubuntu now includes a dedicated step inside its initial setup tool that allows users to enable Ubuntu Pro during the first login process. This tool, based on the system welcome wizard, appears automatically when a new installation is completed.

The process is designed to be simple. Users are presented with two choices: enable Ubuntu Pro immediately or skip the step and continue using the system. It makes the feature more visible and accessible compared to earlier versions, where users had to enable it manually later.

If a user chooses to enable Ubuntu Pro, the system generates a code that must be linked to an account. This process connects the machine to a subscription using an online login. In most cases, this requires signing in through an Ubuntu account system.

sudo pro attach

The command above reflects the traditional method used to activate Ubuntu Pro through the terminal. The new graphical setup step offers a more user-friendly alternative to this manual process, especially for beginners.

Ubuntu Pro itself provides extended security coverage beyond the standard support period. It includes updates for a wider set of packages and helps maintain system security over a longer time. This makes it particularly useful for users who want long-term protection without complex configuration.

Another important detail is that enabling Ubuntu Pro remains optional. Users who prefer not to activate it during setup can skip the step and manage it later through system tools. This ensures that the feature does not interrupt the normal installation flow.

However, the setup flow may not fully guide new users. Some parts of the process assume that users already understand account requirements and how Ubuntu Pro works. This means beginners might need to explore additional documentation before completing the setup.

Even with that limitation, this update shows a clear direction. Ubuntu aims to simplify access to advanced features by integrating them into the core user experience, rather than leaving them hidden behind manual commands.

This change improves usability and visibility. By bringing Ubuntu Pro into the initial setup process, Ubuntu 26.04 makes it easier for users to take advantage of extended security features from the very beginning.
