Intel Releases NPU Driver 1.24, Validated for Meteor, Arrow, and Lunar Lake Chips

Intel has released version 1.24 of its NPU Linux driver user-space components, which interface with the upstream IVPU kernel driver. This update brings new firmware binaries and other routine updates, with official validation for the company’s Core Ultra Meteor Lake, Arrow Lake, and Lunar Lake system-on-chips.

Published by Intel engineers, the new release incorporates several key component upgrades. The Level Zero API implementation has been updated to v1.24.2, the vpux_elf submodule has been advanced to a new commit, and the compiler is now based on the npu_ud_2025_38_rc1 release candidate.

The release notes also mention “new driver and umd-test changes,” though no further insight was provided on the nature of these modifications. The primary function of the package is to provide the necessary user-space elements to enable NPU acceleration on supported hardware running the Linux kernel.

Those wanting to utilize the updated Intel NPU Linux user-space driver components can find the new 1.24 release available now on GitHub.
