How to Install Krita in Ubuntu Linux


  • Method 1: Install Krita in Ubuntu via PPA

Open the Terminal and run the following command one by one to install Krita:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kritalime/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install krita krita-l10n

Here Krita-l10n installs the translation package.

How to Remove Installation

  • Run the below command to remove Krita:
sudo apt-get remove --autoremove krita
  • Remove the PPA repository, launch Software & Updates, and navigate to Other Software tab.

Remove the PPA from Software and Update Utility

  • Method 2: Install it on Ubuntu via AppImage

In this method, you can install this design tool through AppImage for your 64-bit system.

Download Krita AppImage

Grab the appimage, and run the file to launch it after making it executable (Properties -> Permissions).

  1. I had an 12inch XP-PEN Artist 12 Pro Display Drawing Tablet and it worked flawlessly with Krita in ubuntu .

    The software also supports pressure-sensitive drawing, which allows me to create illustration on my xp-pen drawing tablet.
