The Trinity Desktop Environment project released version R14.1.6 on April 26, 2026. This is the sixth maintenance update in the R14.1 series and brings bug fixes, application refinements, and expanded distribution support.
Trinity Desktop is a continuation of the classic KDE 3.5 interface. It targets users who prefer a traditional, keyboard-friendly desktop without the resource demands of modern environments.
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS support is the headline addition for most Linux users. Packages are now available for Resolute Raccoon, and Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic packaging has been dropped in the same update.
Debian loong64 architecture support also lands in this release. The loong64 packages cover the Forky and Sid branches, extending Trinity’s reach to this relatively new processor architecture.
On the compatibility front, R14.1.6 adds FFmpeg 8.0 support in akode and binutils 2.46 support in libr. Newer Poppler versions, including 26.04, are now supported as well, keeping the document handling stack current.
Several core applications received visible improvements. Konqueror gains a new “Go to Desktop” action. KSnapshot now supports drag-and-drop for captured images. KCharSelect improves its internal navigation controls.
Kicker, the classic Trinity taskbar, adds a 3D border styling option. KXKB receives compatibility improvements and picks up new currency sign entries for keyboard layout handling.
The tdeio_iso component now supports xz archives, which expands the range of compressed formats users can browse directly through the file manager. The tdebase package also updates its built-in search engine list.
Artwork and branding have been refreshed. TDE-branded icons, wallpapers, and interface images have been updated throughout. The “Flying Konqi” wallpaper has been removed from the tdeartwork package in this release.
Bug fixes cover several longstanding issues. A startup crash in KDesktop has been resolved. The Twin window manager now correctly tiles maximized windows and handles multiple opacity-related problems.
Compton-tde also sees a fix that eliminates the need to reboot after making compositor configuration changes. Users can now apply changes and see results without a full session restart.
KMail correctly verifies signatures in encrypted messages going forward. KPDF receives crash fixes tied to session exit and full-screen startup scenarios. KDF now handles drives of 2 TB and larger without incorrect size reporting.
Ark improves its date format detection when handling archive files. TDM, the Trinity display manager, now starts a D-Bus session through a more reliable Xsession script implementation.
One Twin window manager option has been removed. The ability to apply translucency exclusively to window decorations is no longer available, as it conflicted with more recent compositor changes.
The ktimemon Kicker applet now supports NetBSD, extending Trinity’s reach beyond Linux to BSD-based systems for monitoring tasks.
Packages for R14.1.6 are available for Debian, Ubuntu, Devuan, Raspbian, Arch, RHEL, CentOS, Fedora, openSUSE, Mageia, and PCLinuxOS. Live images are also expected to follow.
Full details on this release can be found in the official Trinity Desktop R14.1.6 release notes.
