How to Install WeChat Messaging App on Ubuntu Linux. Now Available As Snap

WeChat known as Chinese social media app is getting very popular as a micro-messaging platform at present. You will not believe that almost 900 million people all over the world use this app for social communication in every month. WeChat is available for Windows, Linux  Android, iOS and other OS. It supports Text, Audio, Video Messaging. Also, you can do group chat with your friends and family. It’s a desktop client app for Linux, but its other features will blow your mind. It will not only offer you to chat but also help to play your bill from social media.

However, Today I am here to let you know some great features and installation process of WeChat on Ubuntu Linux.

Installing WeChat on Ubuntu is effortless. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete. It supports all Ubuntu version including 17.10. There are several methods to install it on Ubuntu. Let’s see.

Installing WeChat Via Snap:

Snap is essential if you make the installation easier. So before installing via Snap, you have to install snapd and snapdxdg-open” Follow the command to install it.

sudo apt install snapd snapd-xdg-open

After that, you need to type the following command

sudo snap install electronic-chat

This command will help you to open up WeChat client. Type the following on terminal emulator

electronic-chat

It will take some time to open up for the first time. Now it will promote you to scan QR code to login in it.

Now you can use it from Ubuntu.

Uninstallation:

You can quickly remove WeChat just merely typing the following command

sudo snap remove electronic-wechat

Installing WeChat Via GitHub:

Github is the excellent source to download Linux based software. At first download WeChat installation file (Linux-x64.tar.gz) from GitHub. Then type the following command on the terminal emulator to extract it.

Tar xvf linux-x64.tar.gz

After extracting use this command to start it

./electronic-chat

Now it will promote you to log in with QR code as we saw above
